Your path to leadership at WUSA

Thanks for showing your interest in trying to make a difference and making the University of Waterloo a better place for undergrad students! 

 

This newsletter will provide you with all the information you need to consider throwing your name in the hat for the WUSA President or Vice President roles, or a seat on WUSA's Board of Directors. 

 

Key Dates

  • January 15 - Nominations close at 11:59 PM
  • January 17 (subject to change) - Mandatory all-candidates meeting
  • January 18 - Campaign period begins!
  • February 12-14 - Voting period
  • February 15 - Results announced
 

Ready to get started?

It's not too late! Only 14 students are in the process of collecting their signatures and no one has collected all the required signatures!

  1. Familiarize yourself with WUSA's Bylaws and Policies, especially the Elections and Referenda Procedures.
  1. Start collecting signatures!
  1. Go to vote.wusa.ca to get those nominations. Any UW undergrad student can nominate you by logging in with their WatIAM.
  2. Busy study spots and cafeterias, asking classmates, roommates, or floormates, or people on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Reddit are all great places to start! 
 

Board Roles and Responsibilities

President 

  • Official spokesperson for WUSA
  • Oversees internal advocacy to UW
  • Encourage evaluation of academic policies
  • Build relationships with students, student groups, UW administration, other student governments
  • Full-time, salaried position that can count towards co-op
  • Option to take 2 free courses per term

Vice-President 

  • Advocate on behalf of students to municipal, provincial, and federal governments
  • Sit on external bodies like OUSA and UCRU
  • Promote student welfare on issues like transit, safety, and housing 
  • Full-time, salaried position that can count towards co-op
  • Option to take 2 free courses per term

Board Member

  • Oversee financial, legal, human resources and contractual affairs
  • Establish and review WUSA policies
  • Act for the student body on academic/education-related issues
  • Recommend stances to board
  • Sit on joint committees with other university bodies
  • 5-10 hours per week compensated with an honorarium
